Introduction to throwing pottery on a potter’s wheel.
This introductory class will be a 3 week series in which you will learn the basics of working with clay on the potter's wheel and making easy, small wheel-thrown pieces- (1-4 pieces). Future classes will be offered for more advanced throwing.
WEEKLY FOCUS:
5/22- Creating on the wheel. Since centering clay is a skill which often takes years to perfect, help will be provided with this basic skill as needed.
5/29- Trimming, adding handles and decorative embellishments. Following this class, your pieces will be bisque fired for you.
6/5 - Preparing pieces for the glaze firing. Dip glazes and firings are included for up to 4 pieces. All firings, bisque and glaze, will be coordinated with other classes to ensure all pieces are completely dry and that full loads of bisqueware and glaze ware are properly fired. Check with your instructor for estimated dates of firings and when you can come back to pick up your finished pieces. This introductory class is a prerequisite for attending an intermediate class, as well as the pottery open studio time on Wednesday evenings.
4 students needed to make the class.
All students must pre-register at least 3 days prior to class to ensure we have enough people for the class and supplies are available. No walk-ins will be accepted.
Price: $80.00- All supplies will be provided by the instructors.
