About the event
THURSDAYS- 1/12 & 1/19- INTRODUCTION TO WHEEL THROWN POTTERY with Tana Kettner & Wanda Nickles
2 week class- Â 3pm to 6pm
Introduction to throwing pottery on a potter’s wheel.
This introductory class will be a 2 week series in which you will learn about the
various types of clay, best uses for each, how to prepare clay for use and make easy, small wheel-thrown pieces- (1-3 pieces). Future classes will be offered for more advanced throwing.
We will discuss the basic terms, techniques, stages and processes of wheel throwing. You will have the opportunity to make your own bowl or mug. Since centering clay is a skill which often takes years to perfect, help will be provided with this basic skill as needed. Â Following this class, your piece(s) will be bisque fired for you. After the bisque firing, you may choose to take them home and paint them with acrylic paint for decoration or pencil holders, etc., or attend an Open Studio or future glazing session to glaze your work. Dip glaze is included for up to 3 pieces.
The pottery instructors will check all pieces for proper prep before firings. All firings, bisque and glaze, will be coordinated with other classes to ensure all pieces are completely dry and that full loads of bisque ware and glaze ware are properly fired. Check with your instructor for estimated dates of firings.
This introductory class is a prerequisite for attending any of the Pottery Classes
that are offered on a weekly basis.
Minimum of 2 students, Maximum of 4 per session.
All students must pre-register at least 3 days prior to class to ensure minimums are met and supplies are available. Â No walk-ins will be accepted.
Price: $80.00- All supplies will be provided by the instructor.
