Tired of using dull knives at home? Learn how to sharpen kitchen knives from a professional knife maker. "In this class, you will learn how to sharpen kitchen knives from a professional knife maker. You can bring your favorite knife from home or practice in class with blades made available for the class. We will open the class with about 20-30 minutes of discussion before moving to the sharpening stations to begin practicing what you've learned. The goal of this class will be to give you hands-on experience that will help you sharpen your knives and keep them sharp with minimal time, effort and expense. Most importantly, how to quickly set the bevel edge on a dull knife and to determine when it's time to switch sides or change to a higher grit stone. These skills, with practice, will let you keep a razor sharp mirror polish on your kitchen knives, making food preparation so much more enjoyable.”
This class will cover the following topics:
- Selecting quality knives
- Blade/edge types and geometry
- Basic overview of wet stone sharpening
- How to prepare and care for your sharpening stones
- Sharpening straight edged knives (no serrated/saw tooth blades)
- Stropping and maintaining your knives.
The instructor will provide a series of sharpening stone stations that students will be able to use for hands-on sharpening practice. If you bring a knife from home to sharpen, please make sure to have some cardboard to cover the edge for the trip home, because the edge will be sharp."
Cost $25.00 all sharpening supplies will be provided.
